Commissioner's Profile

Maj. Daniel Sowah Ablorh-Quarcoo was born on July 29, 1951 at Adukrom Akuapem. After primary and middle school education at the Local Methodist School, he entered Prempeh College, Kumasi, for his secondary education in 1964 coming out in 1971 with his Ordinary and Advanced Level Certificates of the G.C.E. respecetively.
He then continued to the Ghana Business School of the University of Ghana, Legon, and graduated with a B.Sc. (Admin.) Degree in Accounting.
He enlisted in the Ghana Armed Forces as an Officer Cadet in April 1975 and was commissioned Lieutenant in November 1975.
He trained at the Royal Army Pay Corps (RAPC) Training School at Worthy Down, in the UK which eventually saw him successfully completing the examinations of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in November 1982 becoming a full member of the Institute in 1985. In 1989 he was also admitted to the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana)as a member.
After leaving the Armed Forces at the end of his short service commission in 1987, he joined the Ghana Cocoa Board as Management Accountant.
Major Ablorh-Quarcoo has had a rich experience in senior management having been head of the Finance Department of COCOBOD for nine years.
He is very knowledgeable in International Finance as he was the designer and for many years the implementor of the famous COCOBOD Trade Finance Facility by which the Board financed its cocoa export business.
Apart from being a Board Member at UT FINANCIAL SERVICES LIMITED - a leading non-bank financial institution in Ghana, a member of the Alumni Council of University of Ghana, a Council member of Institute of Chartered Accountants - Ghana (ICA-GH) Executive Council, a member of the African Tax Administrators Forum (ATAF) Steering Group, he was also a Director of COCOA INPUTS COMPANY LIMITED (C.I.C.) a farm inputs distribution company. He currently manages a small cocoa processing company ALLIED COCOA PRODUCTS LIMITED, Producers of high quality Broma natural cocoa powder. He has also attended various International Conferences on Taxation around the world.
For personal professional development Maj. Ablorh-Quarcoo (Rtd.) has attended a few short courses to enhance his Post Qualification Education (PQE) these include Strategic Management Course - School of Administration, University of Ghana (1997) International Trade Finance - Queen Anne's College, U.K. (1999) Intergrated Financial Management - St. Hugh's College, Oxford, U.K. He has also been an examiner in Management Accounting for the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana) for several years.
Maj. Daniel Sowah Ablorh-Quarcoo is Competent in various areas due to his four (4) years on the Ghana Accounting Technicians (GAT) Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana). This committee designed and introduced the Accounting Technicians Certificate Programme to help produce middle-level Accounting Professionals as obtains in other countries.
He has also worked as a Consultant on a few occasions for Michael Borish Inc., an International Management Consulting Firm. He has also been a member of the team of specialists that handled the divestiture of Produce Buying Company Limited in 1999. It was the first SOE that was successfully divested by means of a share offer on the Ghana Stock Exchange rather than by direct sale or sealed bidding.
Major Ablorh-Quarcoo is happily married with five beautiful children. A practicing Christian who is currently offering professional service, Gratis, to the Methodist Church, Ghana, as the General Director of the Board of Finance and Development.
