MRS. JANET OPOKU-AKYEAMPONG
FORMER COMMISSIONER OF INTERNAL REVENUE
Mrs. Janet Opoku-Akyeampong graduated from the
University of Ghana with a BA (General) Degree in 1968.
She joined the then Income Tax Department as
the first University Woman Graduate as an Assistant Inspector of
Taxes immediately after graduation and has risen through the ranks
to become the Commissioner – Internal Revenue Service in 2001.
She has been a pace-setter for women in the Internal
Revenue Service. She is the first woman to head District and Regional
Offices; and become an Assistant Commissioner for the Assessment
Division and a Deputy Commissioner. In 2001 she was appointed the
first ever woman Commissioner of Internal Revenue.
She has attended several courses and obtained
a number of professional certificates. She is married to Daniel,
a Barrister-at-law with 2 children. Her hobbies include reading
novels, Bible Studies, Music, Travelling and Sightseeing and Watching
documentary films.
She retired from the Service in 2005 after
37 years of active service.
